Indian gooseberry is called by different names in different languages. In Sanskrit, Shri Phal, Amrit Phal, Kal Phal, Raha Tri Phal, Jati Phal, Vidya Dhara, etc., and Anbla in Gujarati, Amla in Persian, Amalj in Arabic, Anura in Sindhi, Phynithus Emblica in Latin and Emblic Mytoblan in English.
It is a famous common tree that grows wild in most tropical regions of the subcontinent. It is available almost everywhere, from Jammu and Kashmir in the foothills of the Himalayas eastward and down to Sri Lanka. Its tree is 30 to 40 feet tall and 3 to 6 feet thick in girth, but some trees have been seen up to 10 feet girth. The tree is vigorous, spreading, and beautiful. It has a brown outer membrane with a roughly an inch-and-a-half thick bark. There are small spots on it, but it has a red colour inside. Its wood is red and hard. Its tree frequently splits or bends when it is cut down. Therefore, it is not suitable for making buildings and other goods.
Its leaves are small and light green like tamarind leaves, and the flowers are golden yellow in racemes. Its fresh fruit is round, beautiful, plum-shaped, and has six lobes. Inside the fruit is a triangular white pulp. Raw Indian gooseberry is green in colour, which turns yellow or golden yellow when ripe. Drying the Indian gooseberry causes them to become wrinkled, and the pigment becomes inky bluish.
There are two types of Indian gooseberry: one is wild, and the other is cultivated. Wild or hill Indian gooseberries are small, weighing on average four mashes, and the grafted ones are bigger, considering six tolas. Banaras and Bareilly Indian gooseberries are more popular among grafted Indian gooseberries. Indian gooseberry soaked in milk and dried is called sher Indian gooseberry. According to ancient medicine, gallic acid, tannic acid, gum, Alyson, etc., are found in its fruit. It is also made into pickles and jam. It is the greatest treasure of vitamin C. People with vitamin C deficiency should use Indian gooseberry. After drinking Indian gooseberry broth, if you drink water afterwards, it looks very delicious, so much so that you want to drink more water. Due to its sour and sweet taste, people use it sparingly.

Indian gooseberry is the best medicine for headaches, dizziness, mental weakness, forgetfulness, and all head diseases. Excessive thirst and vomiting are cured by sucking Indian gooseberry. If there is bleeding from the uterus, feeding Indian gooseberry powder with water three to four times daily will cure the disease.
Lung diseases get cured quickly by eating Indian gooseberry. Put Indian gooseberry in water and leave it overnight, then wash your eyes with it to relieve redness, irritation, and poor eyesight. Apply fresh Indian gooseberry paste and squeeze it with a cloth, dry its juice, and keep applying this kajal to the eyes; all eye diseases will be cured.
Wash your head with the water of Indian gooseberry soaked overnight. Mental weakness and dizziness will be corrected, and hair will become smooth and soft. Indian gooseberry powder mixed with the finger like a poultice relieves bleeding from the teeth, tooth decay, toothache, and toothache.
If the bleeding does not stop due to injury, prepare a paste of Indian gooseberry-like flour, sprinkle it on the wound, and bandage it; the bleeding will stop. Even boils heal quickly with this remedy.

Chivan prash awliya is one of the famous Ayurveda medicines. There is a tradition related to this medicine that Chivan Rishi became old and weak while doing austerities; even his body dried up and became a cage of bones; instead, it is written that even the grass had grown. In the face of such weakness, they wanted to have children. At that time, the physician made this Rishi an awliya by using which all his weaknesses were cured. The same herb has since been known in medical books as Chivan Prash, i.e. the diet of Chivan Rishi.

Indian gooseberry 100 pieces
Raw Indian gooseberry (for juice) 150 pieces
Sugar 2.5 kilogram
Salt 250 gram
Lemon juice 500 gram
Cardamom powder (powder) 60 gram
Mountain salt 250 gram
Vinegar 1 kilogram
Recipe preparation:
First of all, take 50 of the Indian gooseberries reserved for juice and extract their juice. Now, put 100 Indian gooseberries in the liquid and keep them in the bright sun for a long time to dry, and they look like they have a coat of juice on them. Take 50 Indian gooseberries once more, and this time, extract their juice. Remix this juice in coated Indian gooseberries and keep it in the bright sun. After drying, extract the juice of the remaining 50 Indian gooseberries, mix them with the coated Indian gooseberries for the third time, and dry them in the sun. Finally, add lemon juice to them and dry them. When dry, please put them in a jar and add vinegar and rock salt. Now add cardamom powder and seal it in bottles. Bottles no longer need to be kept in the sun. Amla Chutney is ready. Indian gooseberry chutney is prepared.

Recipe preparation:
Prick the amla in the lime water with a fork. After soaking for two days, take them out, wash them thoroughly, and let them simmer on low flame. This way, they will become a little softer. Now prepare the paste and put the Indian gooseberry in it. After a while, the Indian gooseberry will leave the water. Until then, let them stay on fire. After that, remove it, let it cool, and put it in a jar. Jam is ready.
